My Self-Summary

Back home, I'm a noble, the son of a Margrave, but for most of my life I've been a knight and a soldier. I'm mostly just looking for a good time and people who are open-minded enough to enjoy it with me, maybe try out some new things. There's a lot here I've never gotten to experience and I'm interested in changing that.



Outside of that, I'm a connoisseur of fine food and fine teas. I enjoy cooking, gardening, horseback riding, chess, and discussing a wide variety of topics, whether it's art, fiction, theoretical ideals, or more esoteric topics.

Enjoying myself to the fullest here. Making conections and meeting new people. Experiencing all this place has to offer and finding those interested in exploring it with me.

Varied and many. I had a robust interest in pursuing pleasures of all sorts back home and I hope to keep expanding that knowledge and skillset here.

Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and Food

I enjoy books on a variety of topics, but I've never seen a movie. Plays and operas are far more common in my world and a comparible form of entertainment. I like a wide variety of dishes and have a fondness for trying new dishes from distant places. I have a fondness for spices and rich flavors.

My Ideal Partner

I'm very adaptable and tend to adjust to whoever I'm with, making this a very broad category, since I have a varied taste in companions as well, depending on my mood. I find people interesting and like as many varieties here as I do in my favorite dishes.

Hair beads

[ It's been long enough since they arrived that both their hair has gotten longer. Basch has never worn it this long; not with strict military protocols. Maybe that's why he's let it stay. It's a distancing from that past life and something he associates with this one.

Nami has started to teach him how to put small braids in it, both to keep the worst of it from his eyes and to look nicer. He may not be much for fashion, but he finds the ritual of doing it himself or receiving the hair care to be soothing. So, it's only a matter of time before he wants to share it with Sylvain.

He just...keeps getting nervous to bring it up. There's no real reason why, just and old sense that what he thinks would be nice may be awkward.

But, finally, one late morning that Sylvain has stayed over and the two are getting ready but with no real rush to be anywhere, Basch works up the courage. ]

I have something for you, and I won't be offended if it isn't something you want.

[ He goes and gets a simple wooden box with a flower carved on top -- something else he made -- and opens it to show Sylvain an assortment of wooden beads. Most are simple and round, but a few are small flattened medallions, one clearly bearing a fox. ]

I thought I could braid them into your hair. If you'd like.

[ Sylvain pauses in buttoning up his shirt, glancing over when Basch speaks up and arching an eyebrow at the ridiculous possibility of ever turning down a gift from the other man. Especially when he knows how much thought frequently goes into such a thing.

But he follows the man over all the same, peering over his shoulder and down into the box. He doesn’t understand what he’s looking at until Basch adds in that last part and then he’s blinking down at the beads. And then over at his lover. ]

You want to… braid my hair?

[ His own hair has certainly grown longer in his months here - it had been on the long side even before his arrival, what with the war and all, and he’s let it continue in his time here. It’s nowhere near as long as Felix’s just yet, but certainly long enough now that he’s occasionally drawn it back off his face in a bun at the back of his head, or fastened the sides back with a clip he’d gotten in one of the shops.

He hadn’t really considered this as an option, but he reaches down to pluck up the little fox medallion with a growing smile. ]

You know how to do that?

[bardische]

[ Yes, well, he feels like furniture is different from personal adornment, and Sylvain's initial reaction has him feeling a little shy, the repetition that Sylvain doesn't need to feel obligated hovering in his throat.

But that blinking look is not abnormal this early in the day, and it quickly turns to a grin. He feels tension leaving his shoulders as Sylvain picks up the little fox medallion; there's not convincing himself that isn't approval. ]

I've been learning.

[ He'd thought about making Sylvain a clip, too, but he wasn't sure if that had been a gift from someone and didn't want to overstep. ]

[ It hadn't been. He'd picked it up out of necessity, nothing more.

But he rests his chin on Basch's shoulder now with a hum and a soft grin. ]

I've never had braids before. Think I could pull it off?

[ He tried to imagine it, but it just ended up being some combination of the simple one Claude had sported, and Petra's various strands. ]

[bardische]

[ That gesture of warmth is clearer than any other assurance Sylvain could give that he's pleased with this. Basch chuckles, leaning his head back against the other's, glad he did this. ]

My opinion on fashion is hardly worthwhile, but -- yes, I do, and if we get them in and you don't like them, I will not be offended.

[ Basch had a better eye than he gave himself credit for, likely developed with his carving. And he'd had practice in his own hair, just adding a few for variety, or to pull back from his temples. ]

I want to see.

[ He sounds excited now, grin coming quick and easy in anticipation of something new. He reaches out, brushing his fingers through the beads and medallions in curiosity. Always tactile. But he doesn't select anything, letting that up to his lover. ]

Your fashion sense is better than you think, it's not your fault your wardrobe has Opinions. [ Not that he doesn't appreciate those efforts. Basch is a god in skin-tight pants. ] Pick what you think will look good.

[bardische]

[ There's something almost childlike about Sylvain's excitement. Not immature, just...excitement. Underscored by the way he dips his fingers in the beads but makes no effort to direct this process.

Knowing what he does of Sylvain's childhood, it makes Basch grin in return, bashful and pleased. It turns to a real flush at the compliment. ]

I'm not sure you've seen me choose any fashion [ he protests, but there's no bite to it. Maybe he isn't terrible at it. He hasn't lived a life where he's chosen clothing in so long, but he also hasn't been teased for how he keeps his hair or the things he finds beautiful. ]

Come sit. You'll be more comfortable. [ Box still in hand, he guides Sylvain to a largely unused plush chair and vanity. But it gives him somewhere to set the box, and there are hair supplies here. And he finds himself a little shy, a little reverent, turning Sylvain away fromt he mirror and lifting a comb to his beautiful red hair. This isn't something they've done before, and it feels preciously intimate.

He wants to ask what the other wants but bites it back. He's supposed to choose. So, hair combed, he starts to gently use his fingers to section out three small pieces at the temple. ]

[ Basch should be well aware by now how much Sylvain enjoys having his hair played with. So it should be no surprises that he makes a happy hum of contentment as his lover goes to work combing through thick locks, letting his eyes slide closed as he lets Basch work. ]

So what made you want to do this?

[bardische]

[ He is well aware, and his expression is soft and fond as Sylvain melts under his touch ]

I thought you'd enjoy the process, at least.

[ That one's easy to admit. ]

And...I thought it would be nice to make you something you could keep on your person.

[philancer]

[ One amber eye peeks open in warm amusement, peering up at him. ]

Our tattoo doesn't count?

[bardische]

[ gods it still makes his stomach flutter sometimes when they're this close and Sylvain looks at him like that. ]

I didn't make you that.

[philancer]

Teeeeechnically… [ He drawls out with a quirk of his lips. ] You dubbed me your little fox in the first place. So you’re completely responsible for it in all ways that matter.

[bardische]

[ His fingers stay focused, reaching the end of the braid and reaching for the fox medallion bead, tying off the braid with a little band that doubles as a stopper to hold the bead in place. But he turns to kiss Sylvain's brow, smile warm. ]

One gift is enough then? I shouldn't do more?

[philancer]

Mmm. [ He gives a thoughtful little hum at that before shooting Basch an impish grin as he leans into that touch. ]. Not at all. I can be very greedy, after all.

[bardische]

[ Basch's fingers comb through Sylvain's hair again, pulling a second set of strands father back as he continues to work. It's soothing, like his woodworking, but pleasant being this close to Sylvain while he does. ]

I like spoiling you [ he admits. Privately, he thinks the other man deserves a good deal more of it, given the deficit he had. ]

I suppose that’s only fair to allow, when I like spoiling you so much in turn.

[ Just in case him taking every opportunity to do so had escaped Basch’s notice so far. ]

[bardische]

[ he's gotten better about noticing and not finding reasons to justify the behavior, but its still good for him to hear it, and how please Sylvain is to do it for him.

He gets to the bottom of the second braid, putting on a plain bead, and switches to the other side. But not without taking Sylvain's head in both hands and kissing the crown of his head. ]

You'd have spooked me off, you know, if you'd insisted on spoiling me without allowing me the effort.

[philancer]

[ That just gets another thoughtful hum as he considers that. ]

Would I have, though? I think I spooked you several times, actually, and yet you kept coming back for more.

[bardische]

[ He chuckles at that, shaking his head as his fingers move to the other side of Sylvain's head. ]

Maybe you're right. I do always come back when you spook me, and all the rules have been different with you.

[philancer]

[ Sylvain reaches out to brush his fingers against Basch’s chest, since he can’t really move much with Basch braiding his hair. ]

Well, that’s only fair, I think, since you’ve broken pretty much ever rule I’ve ever had and I’m finding I’m perfectly thrilled about it.

[bardische]

[ That constant need to touch is so familiar now, but it still makes him smile. ]

Good. I want to keep thrilling you.

[ Really, though, it makes his heart swell that Sylvain feels that way, given what he knows of the other. That Basch can be such a safe space for him brings him such joy.

He finishes the third braid and starts on the last. ]

[ He sits patiently while Basch works, his back to the mirror so he can’t see it yet, even if he struggles not to squirm with impatience. ]

How’s it look?

[bardische]

[ Truly that was a testament to Sylvain's trust in him, working to not squirm for something like this. He keeps his fingers working, even as he shakes his head in amusement. ]

You always look beautiful. I...like this though.

[ He'll finish the last one, placing the bead on it. And with one more kiss to Slyvain's forehead, guides the chair back around so he can see. ]

[ Sylvain lets himself be turned, leaning in to eye the small braids with fascination and delight. The beads click together when he moves his head, which is a little distracting, but only in the best way.

His grin widens as he meets Basch’s gaze in the reflection. ]

This would be considered exotic, back where I come from. The only people I’ve ever seen wear braids were those from beyond the natural borders of Fodlan.

[ Duscar were their own people with the own beliefs, for all the ties they’d held to Faerghus. Brigid and Sreng might as well be another world. There was still Claude, of course, but Goddess only knew which mysterious origin he’d popped out of before waltzing in to take his place as the Duke’s only heir. ]

[bardische]

I suppose it is exotic, given we learned it here. [ His smile is small, but his eyes are bright and teasing. ]

You would have been exotic on your own, with your hair, but Ivalice is so full of foreigners, I don't think people would have much minded. Other than to have heads turned.

[ It was odd to think of Sylvain there, because any way it could have happened, Basch likely would not have had reason to talk to him, let alone any of the rest. But -- Sylvain would have enjoyed much of it. ]

So you like them?
